Its probably the usual supply/demand that come into act here.
The K1000 and most probably also its earpads are out of production, and hence spare part are becoming more rare as the days go on. Leading to higher prices.

I agree, and keep them at my house to be extra safe in case, heaven forbid something were to happen to your residence.

Did you have your one (or some) pad damaged and need to get it replaced? For somebody really need replacement pad for K1000, maybe I can provide my spare with reasonable cost. However I hesitate to do it for guys just want to have backup.

The why is pretty easy. AKG doesn't want to make more. So the more they charge, the longer they'll still have stock. Increases the ROI as well.

Ok so I took off one of the K1000 pads to examine it, and it looks like as long as the leather cover is still in good shape, you can replace the foam however you like and glue it back together.
