Who loves their current setup?

I'm another one of those guys who transitioned from headphones (five figures worth, along with lots of other gear) to speakers.

I'm incredibly happy with my current setup—far more so than any headphone system so far.

Alienware M11x R2 laptop PC ➜ Behringer UCA202 audio interface ➜ Schiit SYS passive preamp ➜ Behringer KM750 power amp ➜ Klipsch RP-250F passive floorstanding speakers

Before this, I used JBL LSR305 active compact studio monitors.

I experimented with DACs (from low- to high-end) and realized (especially with rapid volume-matched A/B testing) that the differences were miniscule compared to the massive improvement you can get from upgrading your transducers...so I'm just using a $30 audio interface as my DAC now. (Though I would like the best available eventually.)

I'm in a large house at the moment. If I move into an apartment again, I may have to get back into headphones.

current test setup:
iMac > Chord Mojo > SRM-727 modified > SR-009
with massive power conditionings for mac and amp.
today I found best way of gears combinations to drive my Stax SR-009 the end game HP.
now it sound very silky smooth and heavenly melody.
edit: i found my Luxman DAC sound better LOL

Your SR-009 is begging for a DAVE or Hugo 2

I can’t really tell any differences with volume matched quick swapping but when I stick with something for a week and then switch back the differences stand out like a sore thumb. I don’t understand why this is that the brain can’t cope with rapid swapping between sounds.

For example I used mojo solely for a very long time but I accently left it behind while I went traveling so I had to use my phone for music. Then I started to notice with one of my favourite tracks “huh that’s strange there’s something missing in bass but I can’t quite put my finger on it” like an extra layer from the bass had been removed. That was just one of the differences.

The same happens when I get new headphones I think well these don’t really sound much better at all, did I waste a lot of money? Then I go back to the old set after a couple weeks and I can’t believe I thought they were decent but now just become a horrible veiled and flustered sound with no detail.

I still miss my speakers from years ago, they were really great.

I am actually quite content with my very simple setup: iPhone/PC > Supra USB > Chord Mojo > Forza AW Claire mk2 > Senns HD650. Would like to add the Poly, however.

Also have a few Chi-fi IEMS (Tin T2, KZ ZS6) and would like a Meze 99 Classics to have a closed back alternative to the HD650s.

Might consider using the Mojopoly with an amp to build a more stationary setup. But I don't really know which amp that would be.

I love great speakers/rooms (29'x19'x9-12') too, having had 35 years of that, but I downsized starting in 2015. 12.2k pieces of vinyl, vinyl playback, Verity Parsifals, Pass amp & pre amp & phono, the room, the house...

Now:

Cans: HE-6se, HE-500, HEX v2, HD-600 (mods & EQ for all (all are balanced)
Sources: Tidal MQA, Cambridge Audio CXC, Sony SCD-CE595; Kenwood 880D (tuner)
DAC: Gumby 1, LG v40; Amp: Ragnarok 1; BH Crack; DAP: Fiio X3, Cayin C5
Speakers: Triangle Celius 202 w/ improved x-over, Fountek X-3 ribbons; ProAc Tablette

BHC: just finished collecting speedball, caps, etc.

Tidal MQA bit perfect shorn of AC power and PC contention crushes every other input I've known in 49 years outside of 15 ips tape and my old Koetsu Rosewood Sig, and its possibly better than both. At this point I'd have to get into 2nd gen AMT or Ribbon technology to take a meaningful jump (estat + amp is not cost effective). So the BH Crack is for the 600's, and that's it this year.

I'm the happiest I've been since I sold my VPI TNT Jr/Souther TQA-1 arm/Koetsu Rosewood Sig/ Pass Ono.

I absolutely adore the BHSE and HE60/009 combo. I simply cannot give it up although I hate feeling like there's only 2-3 competitive totl stat headphones out there overall.

Love the TC's..they're special (and sound great out of the GSX mini), absolutely hate the fit. These are the first headphones I've kept this long despite hating the fit so it says a lot lol.

Like everything else I have, but these are what I LOVE and couldn't give up unless I had to.

I posted that October 2017, almost 3 years ago now. At the time back then, I was using KEF LS50, an Anthem 225 as my amp, and a Denon AVR as my dac/preamp. I believe I purchased a Schiit Yggdrasil a few weeks later.

I've come a long way since then...
What’s your setup now?
