Yup. and I own my HD800 since July 2013 and my amp since may 2014.  But I can't honestly claim I have my end game set up yet. Thus far, the HD800 stays the King of my moutain and the HE-6 and the 007mki are the last TOTL headphones I never met.

I've listened to the 007 MK1 - briefly, especially when you consider how many 100s of hours we have both listened to the HD800 and how much much we must be used to the sound signature of them I wonder how likely it is that either of us will find phones that we instantly prefer.
I found the Orpheus when I listened to it was not as enjoyable which made me stop and think at the time whether I had reached the endgame.

This was the first night listening different music styles with my 99% perfected setup.
There might be improvement possibilities but i fear that will be beyond my budget.
So this sound very nice for my kind of taste.

I had a Sigma Troy listened to it for many 100s of hours. But in the end I sold it. The Sigma Pros sounded less detailed and smooth compared to the HD800s. I'm sure had I not heard the HD800s I would have been happy with the Sigma Pros but ultimately comparing side by side I realised I enjoyed the music more with the Senns.
I have heard the K1000s put forward as a true end game phone for the 2nd time this week now. Do you listen to them with the speakers facing out to the side or with them facing into the ears?
They truly are a remarkable set of phones

I can only listen drivers facing all the way out. Sometimes I play around with the positioning but I always just end up putting them as far away from the ear as I can. If I want drivers closer to the ear for whatever reason, I'd just use a different headphone. The headphone tends to vary in sound between pairs. It's my recommendation you at least try two different pairs if you want to try it out. The irony is that worst sounding K1000 is the most mint pair I've ever seen.

That's enough brushed chrome to fill a NASA Mission Control Centre! We will see you back in a year hopefully; there's no more upgrading needed. Interestingly, many of us have German products as our endgame, AKG and Sennheiser have been mentioned on this page alone; yet you have gone for a Japanese manufacturer. Is this what many believe to be the next level up in the league table of sound quality?

As i like the electrostatic sound, STAX was the option.
Sennheiser´s Orpheus still great but antik and unaffordable, Stax was the company with experience.
For the DAC, i would be happy with the DCS stack or AudioResearch or...

You forgot the LFF Code-X.. I have one of the 20 made (and mine is only one in black)....wonderful piece of music reproduction.
For anyone interested...the humble looking amp (2case config) is a custom built by Blue Circle Audio in Canada ;)
