Back in her prime, do you think Whitney Houston was the best female vocalist ever?

given your username... I assume you're actually asking her to be compared to Lily Pons, or Maria Callas, or Victoria de Los Angeles, or Joan Sutherland?
 
Or would you rather put her up against Mahalia Jackson, or Aretha Franklin, or her mother?
 
My answer would be no, but I really don't believe in "bests."  (I wouldn't put her among my favorites, either, but that's just acknowledging full-on subjectivity).

She had a great voice...and could be considered among the best female singers.

super bowl XXV was one of those moments i'll never forget.
she turned our national anthem into this moment of greatness in that performance. 
if i'm not mistaken, the gulf war probably contributed to the national sentiment... but her singing was perhaps some of the best ever.
