i appreciate your common sense approach.

In all seriousness, I would sell all of them and opt for a single highend one.

As for me, my perfect lineup would be a RS-1, Darth Beyer, and AKG K-340.
Given a higher budget, it'd be a PS-1, Darth Beyer, Omega II.

If I had to keep 3 of mine. Stax Omega 2, Ergo AMT and Jecklin Float 2.

I couldnt pick an ultimate line up of 3. I havent heard enough of the other high end headphones. Although an H90/Omega 1/Qualia would probably be a likely list. ;D

I am happy with:

Home: HD650
Transportable: stax sr-005
portable:im-716

The longer i hang around here, there seem to be more urge to replace HD650 with omegaII

I'd have to say:

Sennheiser HD-600
Grado RS-1
Etymotic ER-4p.

Given a higher budget I'd trade the HD-600 for a pair of Grado HP-2 (presumably - I put the 600 as a nice pair of reasonably level, analytical cans, and while I haven't heard a pair of HP-2 I've heard that they do a damned good job at that), and perhaps the RS-1 for PS-1 (but, again, as I haven't heard the PS-1, who knows).

I agree with this.

For portable cans I've gone with the Shure E500s. Maybe one day I'll get some customs or just use my SR-003s if I can get away without isolation and find a nice portable amp.

For Closed cans I've currently got a Stax SR-X MK3. I'm tempted to pick up a good pair of closed dynamic headphones sometime, something like the ATH-W5000 which I liked in the past. I could live with just the SR-X though. Maybe I'd get a Stax 4070 if I had money to burn.

For Open cans I'm going for the Stax Omega 2's. To date I've been using some borrowed Sennheiser HE60s (giving them back soon) and HD595s (not good enough for my tastes), and Stax SR-003s (not "ultimate" enough). If I was looking at dynamics I'd be eying up the K1000, R10 or Qualias and pick one.

Just three huh? That's kinda limiting, but I guess I'd take three pairs of heavily modded W5000s. One for my main set of phones, one 'beater' pair for listening to in bed and using as the guinea pig to test amp mods, and one as a backup pair in case either bites the dust.

the thing about staying in the low-to- mid price bracket is that i do like to travel about a lot, not only with my headphones but with any sort of music system i have at the time.

once i stayed in a travel lodge (my mates wedding) and brought my £600 sony dvd (now in the attic) a cyrus three amp and a pair of jbl control speakers, headphones . . . . . oh, and my suit for the wedding of course.

whilst walking across Victoria station wearing my senn 25-1 and the triports on another occasion, i suddenly thought that carrying headphones costing over £100 in London was not the wisest move, hence the cheaper senns.

also taking my £165 grado 125's to uni and leaving them on the side few long periods of time, for all to nick isn't that clever either, hence the cheaper senns.

so all of a sudden i now realize that i have too many headphones.

for me the grados would be easiest to get rid of. yes i do love the sound but they a far too uncomfortable for the amount i use my headphones.

the bose ..... i love 'em. sure the headband breaks with annoying frequency, but i do love them, but i could do without them.......i suppose.

i suppose i do need to move up the scale abit.

the hd 25-1 i keep for sentimental reasons (what an excuse).

I am happy with what I have so far.
Open: Stax Omega 2
Portable: Stax S-001 MKII

But would like a closed headphone as well. Preferably a Stax 4070...

I would sell all of those he has, except for the Grado SR60.

Picking three?

Well, the AKG K-1000 and Grado RS-1 are absolutely on the list. I'm not sure about the third... I'd probably sell the rest and get an Omega II. Maybe that's a good idea.

But as for your collection, why not sell it all and just get one pair, like the HD-650, K-701, RS-1, etc.? Use anything left over for a good amp. If you really miss any of your cans, they'd be easy enough to buy again. Odds are, however, that you'll not want to go back.

from what i've heard,

AKG K701
Grado RS-1
(closed headphone)
yuin pk1
koss ksc-75

i'd like to add a closed headphone, but i haven't heard any high end ones yet, and the only one i've heard is a cheap panasonic one that sound horrible.

i've also never heard any iem's, but would very much like to try some e500's or um2's or triple-fi 10 pro's, but for now, i've heard a very good earbud, the yuin pk1. so the pk1's make my list for portable for now, but if i ever like an iem, i'd replace the pk1 with that.

and of course, the ksc75's for those times when you bring a beater that you're not worried about losing or breaking.
