I have been so excited to get myself a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 15s tomorrow but i've been researching and people say there are so many better options ...
I will be using them to listen to music on planes sometimes, but also to record my own music so i want something that has noise cancellation but also very good sound reproduction.. i am completely stumped on what type of headhone to get wether its in-ear, on-ear, or around-ear....please help me out thanks!!

If you don't really hate in-ears, you might want to pop over to the IEM page--my guess is something in-ear will give you the best sound quality and isolation, along with the kind of portability you want for plane travel.

Take a look at the Shure line of IEM's, I have the older E4c's and they sound great, I used them on a recent long train ride and they were perfect for watching movies and jamming using my laptop PC.

If you are looking for great SQ I would steer clear of NC headphones.

Iems = Extreme isolation

We all agree on this.

I'd want to use on ear / around ear for recording/mixing music.

HD-25 seems the way to go
