You probably mean 100Hz - 200Hz, right? 100Hz - 20kHz is pretty the whole frequency range (human audible) excluding the bass & low bass notes. I don't know if there's any consumer headphones capable of producing frequencies up to 200kHz.

I haven't much experience with many headphones as much as some of these guys but of the bunch I own (HD600 & 650, K701, D5000, Super.fi 5 Pro & E500PTH) I would say the ones with best midbass punch are HD650 (HD600 is very close second) for open headphones, D5000 for closed, and the Super.fi 5 Pro for IEM (although the E500PTH are more balanced across low bass, midbass, and all the way through the midrange).

Don't you agree that ED9 have a very strong midbass?

I also have Edition 9 and I absolutely love them, but I don't think they have any kind of midbass emphasis, yet still very powerful drum impact. I made once a subjective frequency test and got it flat from 1kHz down.

Nowadays I can't tolerate headphones like HD-650 with midbass bump and lack of slam.

Ultrasones. I've got both HFI-780 and HFI-550. Plenty of bass thump, with great detail. Very fun cans.

I'd love to listen to the ED9s. Time to start filling a piggy bank.

(that is, a really big one)

Haha. Yeah, that is definitely what I meant, thanks for clarifying.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. If a headphone doesn't have a strong mid-bass it is a deal-killer for me. In theory I want a neutral presentation so I can hear what the artist intended, but punchy drums and bass are so fun to listen to, and they are never fatiguing unlike the extreme highs and lows.

Yep, Beyerdynamic DT150 are known for strong midbass. It's a bit "warmer" boost though. "Bass drum"-punchy, not "snare drum"-punchy, if you know what I mean.

The 100-200 Hz you describe sounds like this kind of bass punch. There are many appreciation threads about DT150s that discuss this property about them, although one guy claimed it is stronger around 400Hz, but this is more mid/lower mid, which obviously doesn't apply to the DT150s at all..

I just ordered some HFI-780s too, so I can give you my impressions there later on. =)

On a budget...try some Equations. RP21 has great bass/bass drum punch. RP22, FWIR, maybe even more...otherwise pretty well balanced across the rest of the frequencies, especially if you remove the foam pad over the drivers.

Most midbass in a headphone I've heard is the stock TakeT H2. Absurd levels of midbass (just around 100hz). So much so that people confuse it for having very deep, powerful bass, which it most definitely does not.

I can confirm that the Equation Audio RP-22X does indeed thump. That's their mission in life.

Hmm.. i see a lot of people calling 100Hz midbass, is that a headphone thing? In my experience from speakers, 100Hz is closer to be called "sub-bass". A subwoofer's cutoff usually ranges from 80-150Hz.
