The gift is for a person who is not all into audio gear, but appreciates good sound quality. Mainly use their existing headphones to listening to mp3's through their regular Dell computer. Prefers closed/sealed. Music preference included hip-hop, country, balads, soft rock, and some modern rock. Prefers big headphones to sit down and enjoy their music for long periods of time. Must be comfortable.

My ideas were:
- Sennheiser HD212PRO
- Sennheiser HD457
- Sennheiser HD497

Comments, suggestions, ideas?

because this is head-fi, I will be the first jerk to suggest something slightly over your price range that is "def. worth it considering the small price difference"

K81 DJ. Next please...

Fantastic little closed cans. Comfort is the problem if he wears glasses though.

How much can I pick up the K81 DJ for?

The A500s are out of the question. That's a lot more than $60, and this gift is just as a side gift. Don't plan on going all out for this.

And yes, by long I mean 2-3 hours.

Thanks for the tip jilgiljongiljing.
I found one K81 for $70 from that store. I'm going to send an offer for $50 and see if we can work from there. Thanks.

Any other ideas are still welcomed. Thank you everyone so far.

You should prolly either send your friend a link to the ridiculously long K81 DJ thread, or read it up yourself on what to do about the clamping force, else getting past the one hour mark is itself quite tough IMO.

But bend the headband sufficiently enough and u can have them on for quite a while.
Don't worry, I'm sure its gonna make a gr8 gift

Phlips HP460: very close in sound quality and signature to the K81dj, more comfortable (but less isolating), and cost much less. Search the forum for more details.

Don't think so. They're good as long as you don't crank up the volume too much and as long as you listen to electronica only.
They're awful with jazz, classical or folk...

HD497 or HD205 would be a better choice. They deal with most genres pretty well.
