As the title says, which headphones would you consider as a bargain? By that I mean, which headphones are better than others in their price range and would then be considered a bargain for that price range?

There are many wonderful headphones out there, but there are a few that simply excel in their price range, clearly above and beyond their similiarly priced breathren, (and sometimes more):

< US$15 - Sennheiser MX500
< US$40 - Koss 60ohm lineup
< US$60 - Grado SR60
< US$250 - Etymotic ER4S/P/B
< US$600 - AKG K1000, Grado RS-1
< US$1800 - Stax Omega II
< US$3100 - Sony R10 (because they are just plain awesome regardless of price)

*Current production only, approximate street prices

IMO - right now - the sennheiser HD600 .

used prices are around $160-$175.
but of course it will sound good only with capable systems.

Very much agree w/ the above post, but you omitted a crucial peice:

<$100 range: Audio Technica ATH-A500s ($99 from AudioCubes.com)
These cans are amazing & can sound beautiful amped or unamped and easily own any other ~$100 can out there in terms of audiophile sound quality.

"Bargains" IMO (i.e. high performance/price ratio):
Sennheiser MX400/500
Koss KSC35
Alessandro MS-1 (have not heard, based on other's comments)
Sennheiser HD280
AKG K271S & K240S
Sennheiser HD580/600 (at current low prices)
Sony CD3000 (yes I think it is worth it's cost, and then some)
AKG K1000 (though the ampage it needs ain't no bargain
biggrin.gif
)
Stax 3030 system (have not heard, based on other's comments)

Do'h, forgot the A500!

That list is incomplete without the Sony MDR-V6/7506. The best value headphone IMO.
