With my Sony DAP, I hear grain with the AD700 (in treble/mids). Don't hear the grain with the UM3xs so I'm not really sure if it's my source or my phones.

Same here. Mind you, it was pairing them with my DACmagic that did it.

Currently my brand spanking RS2's are doing it for me. Terrific phones.
