Hi guys,

I've been doing a bit of research on DAC/amps lately but I am having a hard time finding out which reasonably priced dac+amps feature a way to use only the DAC or only the amp. I want to connect a portable dac/amp to both my laptop at work (using usb dac/amp) and also my computer at home (using the usb dac but have an external amp).

Anyone know of such a dac+amp?

What I am looking for is a dac/amp combo with a line out. :)

The Beresford TC7520. I think that it is much more than OK, but that's just IMO. .Sup, I'm not sure what model you have, but the TC7520's amp section is supposed to be greatly improved fro the 7510.

Inter, in short, the TC7520 is a great sounding budget DAC with a line output, both fixed and variable.

Just make sure you tell Stanley to test before shipping it otherwise you'll end like me with an "el cheapo" pot which doesn't work very well.

The Compass has a switch allowing you to use the DAC by itself, or the head-amp by itself. However, it's not very portable.

I think if you bought a portable amp and just maxxed the volume while at home (using an external amp) you'd be fine. I did this initially when I was using a Corda Move as a DAC.

It isn't very portable, but consider the PreSonus Central Station. It is also designed to be used as a preamp, so you will find the connections you're looking for.

I owned one for awhile - before I was pulled into SACD and vinyl. They're good units and used to have a small following here.

What about a separate portable DAC and AMP combo? This way you only have to carry the DAC between home and work and you can leave the amp at work. Also, what's the possibility of a DIY project? Bantam/Gamma1 DAC with a Mini>3 or one of the many cmoy versions makes a nice combo and is fairly portable.

benchmark dac1 pre or lavry da11. I am trying to decide between these two right now.
