By that I mean which amp (in your opinion) does a good job of driving the greatest variety of headphones?

Mine.

But I'm biased.

As for what I've heard so far...

yeah, the Melos. but for a low cost solution, I think the Creek OBH-11 does a good job as well.

The Melos is my favorite amp, and it's definitely one of the most versatile. It seems like other tube amps have some cans they won't drive well (e.g. for EarMax Pro it's the ER-4S), but this doesn't seem to be the case with the Melos.

But that's not to say that if you have a favorite set of cans, the Melos will be the best choice for you. Personally, I prefer using the Ety ER-4S with the MG Head DT OTL (even though the Melos drives the Etys pretty darn well).

Right now, the RA-1.

Interestingly enough, the ZOTL likes a retubing to switch between the HD-600 and the CD3K. I've got separate sets of tubes to optimize it for each can.

If all goes well, I should have a Melos for comparison in a week or so. We'll see then....

One of the features I really like about the Max is the 3 stage filter switch. For Senn 600/clou red I use "bright" and for Sony CD3000
use no filter, easy flip of small toggle optimizes sound for different
headphone sets.

I used to see the older version of the Max for sale at pretty reasonable prices. Unfortunately, my only experience with Headroom amps was the older version of the Supreme. Perhaps unfairly, this left me with a very sour taste of their product line (it was the one headphone amp I have heard that I would class as "truly awful"). So, I've got a certain hesitation about buying into their product line again. Once burned, and all that...

well, I doubt you'll be seeing many new maxes for sale unless the owner is upgrading to a blockhead.

What about the Sugden Headmaster in this category? Could anybody comment, please? It's got a strong "buy me"-appeal to me, but I haven't found enough info, yet...

Greetings from Munich!
