Which AKG: K701, K702, or Q701?

I listen to sacred music, chamber music, and early music.  I do not listen to rock or pop.

Well, I  guess that for this kind of music, the typical sennheiser slow sound would work nicely.
But if you are looking for something more "vivid", and do not care of pop/ rock,
then  I would say why not srh940.
I  love string based music on srh940.

Where is the SRH940 made?  I ask because I avoid supporting Chinese-made products.

It seems that today, most headphone are produced in china.
The k701 are no more produced in austria, but china.
I  don't know for srh940, most likely in china.

Not true, based on my experience. Have you tried the Q701? Sure, some pairs (for some) sound like the K702, but this seems to be rare.
If you check the Q701 thread, there's lots of us who are happy with the Q701, but not the K702.

Well, let's go for the q701, but I'm a bit bothered when there are variation of sound, for same model.

The K701 made in China?  Every photo I have seen of the side shows "Made in Austria" printed on the bottom of the ear assembly.

Thus, is it fair to say that the Q701 is more vivid--and perhaps more natural?--than the HD650?  I like my 650s very much, but I sometimes think they could be more vivid or natural.  I sometimes sense a slight veiling, but perhaps I am just listening too carefully...or perhaps I am just wrong.

I know this sounds crazy, but I bet you would be one of those who would prefer the HD-600 (or even 598) to the HD-650. Not worth going out and buying them, but worth a listen if you can demo them.
Another headphone that's warmer and fuller sounding than the Q701 is the AKG K601. I prefer this to the K702/K701, but not the Q701.

My Q701 and K601 are made in Austria. Some K601's are now made in China. I only mentioned this because you didn't want a product made in China.

Hum ok , this was because of this thread (click link)

AKG, now made in China

But I didn't see people reporting k701 models made in china especially.
Also it seems that sennheiser is moving some of its production to china too.
Once I've read , it is only with the hd800 you would be sure it's produced in germany.
But it's rumors, must do more search ...

I don't have the box of my srh940 to check where it is produced, but a least it's not "cheap quality".

For that music you NEED the AKG K501. Too bad it's so hard to find and discontinued. It's soundstage and mids are really something else.
Too bad I didn't listen to enough classical and I'm not a fan of massive soundstages. If so, i'd have kept it. Even makes the Q701 soundstage seem tiny.

K501 I think sounds more natural than the Q701 slightly, but doesn't have the treble of the Q701 or the bass.
K501 is fairly bass light to some, but not as bass light as the K400.

The Q701's I received last week are made in Austria as well. Perhaps it's just the lower end models being produced in China, or perhaps I just received some of the last ones that will be produced in Austria. Time will tell.

I thank all of you for the commentary.  Given that the 601 is likely to be made in China, I think I will opt for the Q701.  I welcome any further ideas or suggestions.

Voted for K702, heard the Q701. It's just a K701/2 with a little bump in the bass. Why pay for something that's not the I guess you can it the "original" K70x series sound. I think the K70x is cheaper vs. the Q701 (I might be wrong) and the K702 has the detachable cable. A precious resource for I think anyone. Especially given that it doesn't affect the sound quality at all. And also, I like black > White > Green or other colors.

More than just a little bump in the bass for me. Theres even very good sub-bass. Yeah, really!  It's now a BASS MONSTER! Only kidding. Still has good low bass though. The difference for me is that it's a lot fuller sounding. I would have always called the K702 "very slightly" warm and sometimes thin sounding from any amp. MY Q701 is nearly as warm as the HD-598 and K601.

Q701 is around the same price as the K702 in the USA.

BTW I think that when the Q701 isn't given enough power, it might sound much closer to the K702. The E9 is more than enough power for the Q701.

Why would you be against manufacturing in China?

Buy whichever model is the cheapest on Amazon.

If that were true, how would Austrian-sourced be any different?
