Sennheiser still offers both, so which one would you recommend for me? I listen at home to jazz and lighter rock/pop through a good cd player and tube headphone amp.

I'm also a big fan of my 650s, but I'm sure you noticed that there are a number of people who prefer the sig of the 600s. Your best bet (if you can, which, let's be honest...in most places is impossible) is to try each of them and see which you like the best.

+3 on the hd650's, I love the warmth mine produce.

HD650 is a bit warmer with slightly more bass and a fuller sound. HD600 could be a bit more neutral. They sound more alike than different but when I tried them I preferred the HD650.

I used to own one of them (HD 600), and extensively listened to both, and I agree with those posts.

I would agree with those who suggest HD600.

However, of course, if you want greater bass (especially midbass) quantity or want a highly laidback sound the 650's are a good choice.

x5, or whatever the count is up to, on the 600. I spent nearly all of CanJam 08 doing A/B tests of 600 vs 650, and on "lighter rock/pop" there is no question: 600.

just get the one you can get the best deal on. seriously! either which one you buy will force you to sell it for the other just out of curiosity. it's a disease. i just sold a pair of hd800s cuz im looking to go back to the HD600s and some ED8s and yeah guess what???? i also owned the ED9s and then bought HP1s which i sold for who knows what else.

I had the HD600s and HD650s and even with all the sweet cans i mentioned above the HD650s had the longest stay in mi casa. they are just plain buttery sounding. they also look gr8! and are very comfortable and that means nothing cuz now they are getting replaced by the HD600s. i say don't even think abou it and simply get the best deal you can find. they are both some of the best headphones one can ever get.
