It occured to me this morning that all/nearly all of my gear did not come to me by way of a retail outlet, only my TDS unit, and that was a demo/closeout. I looked from one item to another, and the sources were eBay, Craigslist, rummage sales, flea markets, garage and estate sales, audio meets (sale, swap, and door prizes), second-hand audio stores, and going-out-of-business sales at non-audio stores. My main speakers were given to me outright. BTW, my five stereos (4 home, 1 car) all sound very good for what they do.

Any other scroungers out there? Any new/retail only buyers?

All over. I've only bought a few things retail, much has come from listings here and at Audiogon. Some from eBay, some from Craigslist. I've built a number of items, too, and will probably limit new acquisitions to what I can build. That puts a damper on impulse purchases.

Most of my headphones come from ebay. Almost all of them really. Almost none of them are even current production.

My best headphones - Koss ESP/950 - were a craigslist find. My only CL headphones.

Many of my speakers are thrift store finds. I really need to start paring down the collection.

My best speakers are probably my Ohm Walsh 3's, which were purchased at a stupidly low price at a yard sale in colorado, and sat in my friend's garage in longmont for months until i drove out for the denver meet last summer.

It was worth the 8.5-hours-both-ways drive.
