This is kind of related to the "artist with the most albums in your collection" thread. Seeing as how a lot of you have 20, 30, or even 200 albums by one artist, where do you get all this music, and how much do you pay for it? I'm a poor college student, but I love getting new cd's, and I was wondering if you guys just went down to the local music store, or if you bought online, or if there is some place out there that is even better (cheaper). I, myself, tend to buy the cd's where I can find them, I don't buy online much, but if I did, I wouldn't know where to go first, maybe amazon.com, I don't know. I end up buying 18 dollar victor wooten cd's at barnes and noble because I can't find them anywhere else.

I assume you did not see the Online Music Store List thread stickied at the top of this forum.

I like half.com, although the selection can vary wildly depending on what you're looking for. Prices are consistently good, and for the most part sellers are on the up-and-up (compared to say, Amazon.com "Zshops" where you have to be cautious).

FROM THE RECORD LABEL!

sometimes its just as tower or barnes and noble (after shipping)

but none of the money goes to the middle man! you can find the record label on amazon, and then go to their website. Of course, it doesnt matter if the record label is Sony. but if it some little guy, its great to support them and the artist.

NEVER pay full price for a CD. That is what you should live by. At most stores and online I would guess new CDs cost anywhere from $14 to $16. At a local independent store I go to they have used CDs from $2 to $8. I can usually walk out with 5 or 6 albums for what I would pay for 2 or 3.

If I find a new CD I really really want/need/is rare I will pay full price but honestly used CDs are the way to go.

The best kept secret is that German copyright law is different from that of the US. Record stores in Germany, like jpc.de and zweitausendeins.de carry bargain labels that produce classical, jazz, and other pre-LP era music for as low as a dollar a disk.

See ya

Yes, I agree. Whatever I want to purchase I always check there to see if there is any good copy. I do that with book purchases too.

I try to support the local CD shops in Ann Arbor, but I've been known to woop it up at Best Buy quite a bit. Basically, if I can't get it at Best Buy (which is often) then I go local.
