I know that a lot of the hardcore can enthusiasts here collect headphones for collection sake...but a lot of us here are pretty utilitarian, and each headphone in the collection MUST serve a particular task or duty, else it be sold or traded away.

For me, here is how and when i use my different headphones:

Senn HD 650 - home listening, particularly rock, electronica, hiphop, all around and main music can

Beyer DT 880 (2005) - home listening, especially for classical, opera, jazz, insturmentals....basically when i want soundstage and detail

Grado sr60 - portable/office listening with ipod and go-vibe petite

AKG k81dj - closed can for travel, public transport, flights, and for when i to be a basshead

Crossroads x3i - After trying Sony ex71, Crossroads x3 and x3i, Shure e2cs and UE 5 superfis, i have decided iems and canalphones are not for me (i have a weirdly shaped inner ear, which tend to get irritated easily, whether the tips be foam, rubber, silicone, or whatever). Thus, my only pair of iems right now are with my brother. I reckoned anything an iem can do, a closed can can do better SQ-wise...but thats just me of course.

My next steps are to replace my k81djs with dt770 pros, then my 650 with an entry-level STAX system....

At home:
Grado RS1 for rock, metal etc.
Beyer DT990 for jazz and classical.

One the move:
Ety ER4S.

I wish I could afford to have at least a couple extra good pairs of headphones, but maybe later.

Just random for me.
I usually spend a week or so with one 'phone, then switch to one of the others.

K501 at the office (about 75% of the time).
K340 when I'm not reaching for the K501 (about 15% of the time).
K701 when I'm not reaching for the K340 (about 10% of the time).
AH-D2000 as soon as the FedEx man arrives! : )

I listen to each and every one of these headphones, Monday through Friday. The K340 and K701 serve to remind me just how good the K501 are.
