raymond,
yeah, i've seen that and most of miyazaki's films. kiki's delivery service is great, too. i think mononoke is essentially a remake of nauusica, although i can't be sure because i've only seen the japanese laserdisc of valley of the wind (without translation). i really REALLY want to get all his movies on dvd. there an early great miyazaki film called castle of calistroglio (or lupin 3) that is out on dvd you should check out.

Actually, it's Castle of Cagliostro (aka Lupin III). And it is a great movie... always puts me in a good mood after watching it.

Wow, I can't believe I've only seen my favorite film of all time only mentioned once. The Princess Bride. I missed it during its first run in the theaters, but have seen it on the big screen twice since, and at least 30 or 40 times on the small screen.

Well, my favorite films by category are as follows:

Best comedy -- Princess Bride

Best action flick -- Princess Bride

Best romantic movie -- Princess Bride

Best drama -- Princess Bride

Ok, ok so I'm a little obsessed.

Some other movies that get an honorable mention:

Ronin
The Stand
Scarlett Pimpernel (the 1982 version)
Star Wars Trilogy
Patriot Games
Sneakers
Outbreak
Die Hard (1 and 2 but not 3, whose only saving grace is Sam Phillips)
Fifth Element
The Matrix
X-Files:Fight the Future
The Secret of Roan Inish
LOTR

mkiller - I liked the book(Tom Clancy: Patriot Games) much better, the movie sucked.

Dang, how could I forget Heat? I've been a big Michael Mann fan since Miami Vice. That movie definitely rocked.

I agree about Patriot Games being better as a book. All of Clancy's books were better than the movies, and I've liked most of the movies (except for the one or two made for TV). I am a Harrison Ford fanatic, so IMHO opinion he saved the movie(s Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger).

I kind of assumed it was one of your favorites based on your signature...

Well, I'm huge fan of Robert De Niro myself (favorite).

I can't believe I almost forgot Tom Clancy: Net Force. I loved that movie. Then came all the lame hacker copycat movies.

The Commitments
Das Boot
The Wizard of Oz

I'm also one of those guys that can't channel-surf past any James Bond movies, or an umpteenth showing of 'The Dirty Dozen'.

To me movies could be either a voyeuristic journey into the mind of the screenwriter, the director or it could be so real that I could swear it was written about me
