What's YOUR Beef With PA2V2?

I think that most of what has been said is inline with the situation. This is an amp that will cost you ~$60 shipped with an interconnect and a batt charger, this is Deff a good deal, not matter how you look at it.

The only thing that I would rather is if the proportions were more lie a pack of playing cards, and not so thick.

Warm sound and rolled off treble could be because of the electrolytic caps used on input and output. Other than tube designs I have not seen them used for such purpose in any recent headamps. Gives me ideas on if I should put lytics in my pimeta to smooth it out.

The whole thing with this little monster is like this. You get what you pay for, but...
If you count only the service that Gary give, its priceless...

I know when you going to compare with other ones, then you can say, or YEAH, or NO, or NOTHING... But please just look it the price, portability and service behind and then you can say something. And please don’t forget about the source/player that you have, all those little things…

I enjoy my every day and probably will buy another one from Gary, when he make one.

Cheers.

I looked, and it still seems like a basically mid-fi amp to me with some extra good service/support, features, etc. Which is fine, if that's what a person is looking for... however, I thought the "fi" in head-fi was there for a reason.

Go-Vibe V5 is really not so much more that it should be out of anyone's range who can afford a PA2V2.

P.S. this thread specifically asks for beefs... let us not forget.

Agreed... My was busted recently, output jack, if that's what you mean... And what I have got back, free repair plus researchables. I have not even complain... Just asked Gary what to do, that's it.
But once again, if you spoiled that much with the quality of sound, well than you have to look somewhere else, I guess

My main complaint, the volume pot...static when turning the volume up and down, also slight imbalance in audio at lower listening levels. Other then that it's a great amp for the money, with it's warm sound it's perfect for Grado's, and Gary's excellent customer service. Although it would be nice to seem some upgrades to keep up with with newer amps (IE: Govibe 5, Little Dot Micro+)

i'm impressed and unimpressed by the PA2v2. the price, built, customer service, accessories is impressive. however, it doesn't properly drive my DT880 and there is no difference (to my ears) in sound if i plug my DT880 through the PA2v2 or straight out of the ipod. i did find the amp pairing with my e3c to have a slight hump in bass. in the end, i get what i paid for. and if $60 isn't much, then the sound isn't gonna change much either. have i made a mistake buying the PA2v2? absolutely not!

the volume pot is uber-static-y. Also, my input and output jacks are fickle, and tend to loosen. Other than that, very impressive for the price

Thus far, I have listed

BAD:
- Batteries can get loose
- Size issues
- Highs rolled off
- Soundstage closed-in
- cannot roll op amps
- scratchy volume knobs
- warm sound and rolled treble possibly due to electrolytic caps used for input and output usually seen on tube amps (or is this good?)
- low-level listening imbalanced
- possible name change
- difference in sound undiscernable with dt880

GOOD:
- Value
- Service

Let us remember to keep it specific. A lot of you enjoy and like the amp, but let's also keep in mind that some honest complaints will benefit the next design more than saying "Hey, come on, it's great the way it is!" Combined with the "Keep it specific" rule, it'll be a good indication what not to change. The more negative, the better.

the enclosure is kind of boring. Maybe the red light got to go too. The new picture of the AE_1 is pretty attractive. For $60 Gary may not be able to do this but maybe a few different colors would do it.

Aluren

I'm talking about the "prototype" displays in "Anybody hear any news on the Headamp AE-1 refresh?" thread.
