Plenty of guys on the DVD forums admit to putting the cart before the horse and purchasing DVDs before they purchased a DVD player.  We do get excited about our toys.

Yeah, now that you mention this I remember joining "Columbia House" for their enrollment offer of something like twelve CD's for 1 cent. I also bought about ten or twelve. I had something like twenty-five CD's before I had a CD player.

With my own money? Metallica - Load I think...

B'gak!!! :p

Anthrax - Persistence of Time at a signing session with the band at Utopia Records in Clarence St, Sydney during their tour of that album in....1990. Before I had a cd player, still using an old hmv gramophone for vinyl at the time.  Soon rectified that.

Never really knew what I saw in that band. Seemed like a good idea at the time. Still got the signed cd of course, for some reason...they were lovely guys as I recall :)

1984, Sony CDP-100  2nd dude in town to own one, I knew the HI-Fi shop owner(Hauer Music), He gave me Dire Straits--"Love Over Gold"   I thought I was king crap!!!    I'm just so thankful I never dumped my VINYL!!!  PS..... Factoid, it's said that The first album to be released on CD was Billy Joel's 52nd Street, that reached the market alongside Sony's CD player CDP-101 on October 1, 1982 in Japan.

Like the OP, I forget what CD came first:

Jet - Get Born
The Who - Ultimate Collection? (I know it was a best of, but I'm not sure on the name)

This was 2003, so I was around 13. I mostly listened to the stuff my dad played, but was also starting to listen to the local modern rock station. I then stopped buying CDs until the end of high school when my music tastes expanded.

King crap?!? Love that, and truth is, you might well have been…I'm not even sure I'd heard of CDs in '84. I was in college and had LPs, but most of my listening was on cassette (y'know, really portable).
