What's the first CD…

This is a great thread.  My first CD was Power Windows by Rush, which I still have.  I bought it whenever that album was released, I think 1985.  My first CD player was the Yamaha CD-X2.  I remember thinking that DDD recording meant better sound, and was happy that Power Windows was indeed DDD.  Does anyone else remember how CDs were originally packaged in tall cardboard boxes that were about the same height as an LP, so that record stores could display them in their existing LP spaces?

Not 100% sure, but I suspect it was U96 - "Das Boot" in 1992.

While I'd like to say it was DSoTM, my 1st two were VanHalen and Def Leppard: Pyromania. DSoTM was out of stack and I had to visit and 2nd store to get it. 1987 wootz!!!!

Not that you asked, but my first vinyl album was Black Sabbath - Vol. 4

My first CD was Yes - Fragile

My ears were fatigued by CD's when they first came out.  it took years to become adjusted.  In fact I didn't by a CD player until the mid 90's.  Now I have no vinyl and all CD's.  Now it's low bitrate MP3's that bother my ears.  Oh how I miss the days of analog.

I believe that the first CD I ever purchased for myself was a Gershwin compilation CD.  It was a two CD set for $9.99 - and some of the stuff on them sounded like it - some of it was pretty decent though.  I think it was by a label called "Reference Gold" by Intersound (correct me if anyone has heard of this and I'm wrong).  The first CD that I ever got was the movie soundtrack to the original Jim Henson "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie (a nice sample of the early 90's) - it was a Christmas present from my parents.

When I got my first CD player (Sony D15 Discman) I bought 10 CD's. I think I still have most of them, but among the collection was Joe Jackson- Body and Soul, DSoTM, Dire Straits (1st album), Peter Gabriel-So, Sade-Diamond Life, Steely Dan-Aja, and a few others I don't recall now. (This was in 1988)

I must say that I'm surprised and a bit amazed to find out that it wasn't terribly unusual to buy CDs in anticipation of a player. I thought my situation was somewhat unique.

Plenty of guys on the DVD forums admit to putting the cart before the horse and purchasing DVDs before they purchased a DVD player.  We do get excited about our toys.
