The cheapest Stax you can get, SR-001 MKII.
And it's not a full-size cans, it's semi-IEM.

Find an excuse to go to Japan first, then head to Fujiya Avic in Tokyo.

The SR-404 and SRM-313 combo is probably the most 'budget' you can go while still getting the Stax sound and not stepping down from the HD650. I got my 404/313 combo in Japan for 600 USD total a few summers ago, but they are a bit more expensive outside of the country.

It's so worth it though. Only regret is that maybe I should have gone straight to the top with an Omega II system.

Budget systems with great value, imo.

New (from PriceJapan):
* SRS-3050A -> $830
* SRS-2050A -> $475
* SR-001 MK2 -> $275

For vintage there are a lot to choose from:
* SR-X/MK3, SR-Lambda, SR-Lambda Pro, ...
* SRD-7, SRM-1/MK2, ...

Is it worth to get "Stax SRS-4040A Signature System II" to experience Stax sonic characteristic?

Or save till "Omega II"?

Depends!
If you know you will never afford the Omega II, then get the SRS-4040A and be happy with it. But if you know you can afford the Omega II sometimes in the not to distant future, I recommend you stay clear of the SRS-4040A and save up for the "big-boy".

Or buy a SRS-2050A to get a taste of the electrostatic sound, which you sell when you later upgrade to the Omega II.

I need your opinion,
Does "SRS-2050A" setup is an upgrade over K701 or totally different creature? silly question, but i'm curious

Totally different creature. If you have an ear for the accuracy of planar sound, then it will indeed kill an amped K701. If you have an ear for the punchier but slower sound of dynamics, then the K701 will probably win. Personally, I'd take the 2050, no question.

I thought K701 has a great dynamic, and less punchier... than the rest of headphones that I own. So I can safely assume Stax is definitely has faster driver than K701? because they're electrostatic?

Seriously, 'cheap Stax' is now an oxymoron, a thing of the past.

much harder to do anyway

ok, some of these set ups are more affordable than i anticipated.

any stax products or combos to stay well away from...with better value elsewhere in the stax range? i'm thinking in the used market.

any other dud stax models to be cautious of?
