What's the bassiest open headphone WITHOUT SLOPPY BASS

LCD-2  hands down.

I tried a lot of headphones in the mean time:

HD650 - holy sloppy bass BATMAN (the essence of mediocrity, this headphone. I wonder if the HD600 has more controlled bass, or it's the same bookshelf speaker bass?)
D7000 - ho-o-oly sloppy bass and mid suck-out BATMAN (HD650's for hillbillies)
AD2000 - excellent bass definition,  not enough bass level, hates complex music, godly for vocal
HD800 - good bass definition, not enough bass level (worse than AD2000) (tssst, ziiing, tssst, ziiiing ...)

The HF2 is better than all of these.

Gotta try some Ultrasones (don't have much hope) ...  or some of the new planars like the LCD2.

I'll say the current production of the 600Ohm DT990 is the bassiest open headphone I've heard that had very tight bass that was not sloppy. Easily has the bass quantity of the D7000, but minus the sloppy boomyness of it.

And the HD600 does has far better bass control and definition and not nearly as sloppy as the HD650

The LCD2 - man, I'm so intrigued by this headphone ... but sound unheard, it's too expensive to buy. And now it's the FOTM.

OK, I'll try the HD600 (I already have the balanced cable for it) but I highly doubt it'll be a huge improvement.

I also heard the Beyerdynamic T1 and  I hope the one I heard was defective somehow because it had a strange resonance in it, completely different to any other headphone I heard before. It was quite balanced, dynamic and 3d though, but that damn coloration was unacceptable.

But If they are all like that, it's the shittiest high end headphone ever, even worse than the D7000. That one I suppose if you had the mother of bass control balanced solid state headphone amplifier and you listened to a lot of hip-hop, would make some kind of sense.

Ultrasones with a little internal cup dampening mod.

Keep in mind though, that bass control is a function of amping as much as driver.

You guys don't even bother reading the thread title ... OPEN.

Enough with the pro900 ... How's the bass on the 2200, 2400, 2500, 2900?

Just as good/deep/textured. Add in some top-end airiness for these open versions. Nice.

Well he's already tried them though I do agree the bass is something spectacular. It's currently my favorite can. I just wish it had a little more bass quantity and I'd be set.

The Ultrasone PRO 2500 I just got has the best sounding/quality bass I've ever heard on headphones and they are open.

Of course if an album was badly mixed/produced where a rock album faked the bass(bass boost) instead of actually letting a bass guitar do its job.
Its horrible mess and a headphone like DT 880 is much better. Although I haven't ran into many albums like that. But bass guitar besides drums I think is the worse handled mixed/recorded things on a lot of albums.

The HD650s on my setup definitely have a lot of bass, especially if the recording meant for it. Rarely does it ever get sloppy and in terms of open cans I would think they are a contender.
