"What were they thinking?" - Worst Song by the Best Bands

Jan 4, 2005 at 4:24 PM Post #31 of 44
Not a 'band' per se, but although most of us erased it from our 80s memories, the Bowie/Jagger duet Dancing in the Street' has to be one of the worst What-were-they-thinking's of all time (or at least since Lionel Richie slaughtered the memory of the commodores with 'Dancing on the Ceiling')

..probably was even the same producer, mafai don, or coke dealer who was resposible for both!

That's not even the worst Bowie duet! Think Bowie/Bing Crosby, "Little Drummer Boy!" Bad move, Ziggy!

This one came to me last night. "Boris the Spider" by The Who. I know a friend who likes it, but I think it's a major stinker -- embarassing.

i've NEVER heard a more annoying snare, and he abuses the **** out of it, too.

Agree 100%.

Their guitar tone sucks too IMHO... sounds just like any other nu-metal Mesa tripple rectifier, big buck endorsee.

IMHO their best tones were ADA MP1 preamp=>mesa colliseum=>rectifier 4x12 cabinets (celestion black shadow loaded I believe....)

No kidding. This was before they gave us "outtakes" as bonus tracks or as "previously unreleased" songs in boxed set collections. Talk about a major editorial error! It's not like they needed more material as "filler" to take up time - it's the White Albulm we're talking about!!!

Gotta disagree on this one. Bowie's voice is amazing in that duet. I'm blown away by the beauty of it every time I hear it. Oh well, different strokes.

Funny, I thought about exactly the same song upon reading the title of this thread!

Maybe it's because I heard for the first time when it hit TV - just the image of Bing with the Thin (and VERY) White Duke was just a creep-fest. Hmm, what would be the equivalent these days? Something like Tony Bennett with Marilyn Manson.

Apoptygma Berzerk did a good cover of it, but the original one stinks. But I don't like Metallica much anyway...

Project Pitchfork dropped a big dud on their Alpha Omega album with the track "The Animal". I normally can at least listen to less than stellar PP tracks, but this track is just awful. Then again there is a lot of fluff on their last album, Inferno, but nothing on there sinks that low.
