My timing is abysmal. I couldn't find any of the original anywhere, and then found some at BH Photo. I should have thought to ask why I couldn't find them in stock anywhere! I was afraid they were being discontinued so I bought two. Ha! Turns out they were being upgraded.

EDIT: Turns out the iematch I got from BHPhoto a couple weeks ago... Were the new Plus version! I grabbed one and was like "this cable looks just like the plus version..." Silly me!

I'm curious what this device does, exactly. It sounds like it is a "de-amplifier" --- reducing gain to reduce background interference? Is that different than just reducing the volume on the source ?

It's a voltage divider.

1. you reduce or eliminate noise from source devices (in my experience so far 100% completely eliminated noise in all cases)
2. you can fine-tune the volume (90% of in-ears are much too sensitive, absolutely every source device is much too strong in terms of output power)
3. it lowers the output impedance of source devices to a comfortable 1 Ohm at the Ultra setting, even a smartphone has 33 Ohm like a Oppo Find 7a to a perfect ~ 1 Ohm output impedance
4. depending on the attenuation level you have -12 or -24 dB i.e. of course you have to turn louder to get the same volume as without the attenuation, but this way you are rewarded with a higher dynamic range in the end (I use it for my portable ESL IEM setup for example, recovers a lot dynamic range for higher audio qualitiy)

I use my IEMatch since 2017, one of the best gems for IEMs or portable HiFi ever, best value for the money.

This is a great Eli5 even coming from us! Thanks for taking the time to write this out.

I got mine around the same time too as I'm mainly an IEM guy myself.

Dang, I just got a 2.5mm iEMatch in for my birthday a week ago. Guess I should've waited on it.

How soon will the new 2.5mm one be available?

If you have any sellers remorse, you shouldn't! The original IEMatch is still great and going to do all you need.

ditto, any ETA for 2.5mm Iematch+?

I'll put this in my notes to check in on for you all next week when the rest of the team gets back in the office.

I could really use a 6.3mm Version of this.

Would be perfect to connect low impedance headphones like the Meze Empyrean to Integrated amps with high output impedance (~47 Ohm)

Duly noted! Worst case, if the Empy has a removable cable, you can set it up with a 3.5mm and then go back ithe 1/4th adapter.

Thanks! Appreciate it!

Just wanted to chime back in - not timeline yet for the updated IEMatch+ with 2.5mm, unfortunately! I'll be sure to provide updates when we do have it.

Hi!, I know I'm late to the party and it's almost 2 years from the last reply, but I can't find any information/confirmation regarding:
Can we still use the microphone in earphones/IEMs which has TRRS/4 Pole jack with the IEMatch/+? I'm curious because the IEMatch/+ has TRRS Balanced jack and TRRS Jack is used by Headphones with and without microphone (Correct me if I'm wrong)
My Problem is, I have a very sensitive IEM and thus has a distinct noise floor (irritating) but I also want to use the microphone in the IEMs (yes I'm lazy to buy a separate mic xD). That's why the IEMatch seems a really good solution but no info regarding built-in mics with IEMatch

This stuff is really good and useful, hope that iFi will continue to keep improving this product.
