I know headphones can be used as microphones, but what else are they good for?

Given a loud source, yes, they make for very insensitive but ultimately usable microphones.
I put my KCS75 next to my TV speaker at high volume and high recording gain. The recording had to be played at max volume too, with insane noise levels.

I use my e2c's all the time when I play drums. My hearing is very bad, and I usually want to make the drums as queit as possible nowadays so I just stick in my e2's and hit them as hard as I feel like ; )
