What OS do you use on your PC

Mandrake 8.1 and a small sliver for winxp on my laptop (30gb). Once wine gets more usable, I'm ditching windows for good.

I'd also like to try slackware sometime too.

Ha! Try telling that to the 99% who use PC's. I paid 1k to get my PC totally upgraded, can you do the same with a MAC? Hmmm.....

Hehe, did you get 768 Megabytes of DDR 2100 ram, 60gig 7200rpm HD, 1.4ghz Athlon, GeForce2 MX Videocard with 64Mb...

640MB RAM, 40GB HD, GeForce2MX, CDRW, dual FireWire buses, dual USB buses, built-in digital audio amp, 733MHz G4 (pretty comparable in speed), dual OS's, Gigabit Ethernet, etc., etc., etc.... plus the case and everything else

I'd be surprised if that was comparable to my old G3/266 (I've actually used P2/400s frequently...)

Really though, the PowerPC mhz to performance is FAR better than x86 (4-5 instructions per cycle, compared to 1-2 of that on x86, something like that)... though MacDEF's 733mhz to Athalon 1.4ghz is a stretch, I'd say maybe a 1ghz athalon is on par with a 733mhz G4... plus the G4's vector engine is far better than anything else out there.

Not to get off topic. How do those CPU's in our videogame systems compare to these PC CPU's? I mean the XBOX has a 733 MHz P3, the Gamecube has a 400Mhz CPU, and the PS2 has a 300Mhz. Are these gaming CPU's "turbocharged" to handle more computations. I know i'm trying to compare apples and oranges (due to the fact game systems CPU's handle specific tasks, and PC's do so much more)....maybe this is a silly question?

Welll...
Windows 2000 on two desktops and a laptop. Any copy of XP that comes within a hundred feet of my boxen will be destroyed. Violently.

OS X/10/Whatever on the TiBook.

Mandrake 8.1 running on VMWare on my personal box. (VMWare running on Windows 2000)

I feel that G4 based Macs are much better than Athlon or P4 based PCs. However, it's the operating system that I have beef with. Windows is just much more convenient to use, especially software selection. It also helps that I hate the use of the apple key (replaces Ctrl, argh!), but love the windows key.

Yes but using the apple key uses your thumb, using the control uses your pinky, using your thumb is far easier than using your pinky (Apple pioneered in human interface and made decisions such as these). So yeah, you may be used to the pinky now, but if you were to use it the first time ever, the thumb would be more convinent.
