Quite a few artists, actually. But more general: Classical has been my awakening this year. Classical and Jazz. Never thought I'd say something like that.

For me it has to Republic of Loose, just totally different from anything i have heard in ages and "Aaargh" is a great album and well recorded too,i love it.

I discover new music all the time, so it is hard to pin down what I heard for the first time in 2008. Some great ones that I think were new discoveries this year include Amon Tobin, Matmos, Limbeck, Bat For Lashes, Battles, Ry Cooder, Islands, Mew, and Anoushka Shankar.
