I am a big fan of live concerts and I always wondered how come Head-fiers rarely talk about them in Music forum. Thumbs up for the thread and couple of names that some of you might know:

In the San Francisco Bay Area you get such a variety of artist performing all year round. Within this last year we saw many live performances in classical, jazz, and rock concerts, ranging from Patricia Barber to Sharon Isbin to Santana. The one rock music concert we attend year after year, for more than twenty years, is the yearly summer Santana concert. We watched him and his band members grow old, and saw the ethnic and age varieties of the attending audiences grow over the years. You do get this feeling that good music draws everyone together, and good artists last forever.

There's a ton of other smaller bands I've seen in bars and smaller venues but this is all I can think of off the top of my head. I'll add more when I think of them.

The best concerts were probably the two early Tragically Hip shows, those guys know how to put on a show. Pearl Jam and Goo Goo Dolls in a smaller venues before they got really big were both quite good as well. At this point the only band I truly want to see is Tool but I would want to see them in a smaller venue like the Opera House in Toronto or something similar.

Man while I can't see ive seen anywhere near the number as many of you out here, oh how i wish i would have been alive to see pink floyd do the wall, the two rock concerts i have been to so far were both pretty phenominal:

godspeed you! black emperor (March 2003)
radiohead (August 2003)

Also have seen numerous live jazz performances but no one really notable.

In that order, and I am a huge Floyd fan, but Tom Waits was probably the best live show that I have ever heard. I have been to some Jazz shows that have been just as good, but nothing has topped it yet.
