What is your history in headphones ?

I wondered here after my sony wrap arounds had died and my Ipod buds were making that tin sound with their bass [more so than usual!]

First thing I did was bought a pair of E2C's from buy.com [wont buy from there again] when they were on sale

Next I invested in a Pair of A900's which was sold because they sounded 'almost' artificial

next was a pair of DT770 which were enjoyed for a while but I got bored of their sound and was tired of dealing with their faults, luckily for me a VERY GENEROUS member offered to exchange his modded pair for mine because he was getting them woodied. [SCORE!]

Next was the HF-1, I had been looking into the GRADO line and was considering a SR-225 when this deal popped up. I pounced on it ASAP, I had been listening to a pair of SR-60's earlier on the week and had gotten very interested in their sound signature.

I picked up a pair od ksc-35's just to hear what everyone was raving about but sold them, just wasn't what I was expecting

I snatched a pair of SR-60's of the FS forum recently, I figure I can mod them without hesitation

right now Ive got my eyes (short term) on a pair of ER4-P's for a cruise I have comming up in jan/feb/mar [not sure when] and a pair of A500's [I want soundstage again!]. my longterm goal is a pair of CD3k and a pair of SA5k

First got a pair of HD201s and EX71s. Sold the HD201s, after finding out for myself they were a bad combo with rock, and sold my EX71s to a friend, before it started cable rotting (lucky me).

Got a pair of Shure E2Cs for my trip, one side started going wonky right after my trip, couldn't be used with flex sleeves, ended selling it cheap to someone.

Got Ety ER-6is right after, been lonving it since, except headphone plug went wonky, so they're in repair with Etymotic right now. My main portable headphones.

Got Eggos at around the same time as my E2Cs, did the bass mod in September, enjoyed it throughly, before selling it, in search of the Grado sound.

Got a pair of Pany RP-HJE50 for temporary use, since ER-6is are out of action right now. I'm selling these to my friend the moment my ER-6i comes through my house door.

Got my MS-1s this month, been amazed by it ever since, now thinking about how MS-2s would sound like. Damn head-fi!

I'm still thinking whether I should get a pair of HD555s for movie and relaxed listening, but not anytime soon, wallet's empty, especially after x-mas.

Stock iBuds, which literally blew out and rattled after about 1 hour
Sony EX-51's, Which I thought were the greatest things since sliced bread...
Senn PX-100's, Which I still have but hardly use because I figured out I don't care for headbands and wanted IEM's
Shure E3C's, which I'm using currently...

As far as the future goes, I'm researching portable amps, and can see myself with some E5's at some point...

I knew I would one day have to answer this question so here goes.

It all started with a pair of Iowa headphones. The X222 or something like that. I decided I wanted better and my father gave me a pair of original RS-1's with wooden box and all. I found no better and was happy for about 2 years. I became in desperate need of money as the company I worked for went bankrupt and everyone was laid off. I ended up selling them. 2 years went by and I then actually decided to sign up here to find my perfect pair of headphones. So I now list them in order (I am missing some for sure and I am sure some are a little out of order):

HD580
E2c
MS1
HD570
V6
HD590
HD650
SA5000
HD650 #2
K340
HD580 #2
KSC75
HD600
HD280 Pro
SR80
ER6
ER4S
HD580 #3
ER4P
CD3000
W1000
EX51
W100
K701
HF1

I still have the CD3000's, W100's, and ER4S's. I am still waiting on the K701's and HF-1. I also have 2 other pair of headphones coming in.

1) iPod earbuds
2) Sennheiser HD497: I thought those were not exciting them and doesn't isolate, which led me here, which in turn led me to
3) A900s: loved them
4) Eggos: wanted a pair of portable phones, but felt that the bass was lacking
5) AKG K26P: bass is too bloated and very uncomfortable for me
6) Sony V6 with Beyer pads: currently my main portable phones. Comfort is good, but mids are recessed, and sometimes can be harsh
7) HD201: Sort of an impulse buy, just wanted to see what the fuss is for $20; still haven't made up my mind yet
8) AKG K701: still waiting for Headroom to ship, but hopefully these will become my new primary home phones.
