Ornette Coleman: The Shape of Jazz to Come.
Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out.
Charles Mingus: Mingus Ah Um.
Art Blakey: Moanin'
Cannonball Adderley: In San Fransisco.
Wynton Kelly: Kelly Blue.

It was a very good year....

It was a very good year....



There was an essay recently that was on several sites including slate talking about the 50th anniversary of Kind of Blue and the author made the statement that 1959 was the greatest year for modern jazz and talked about the albums you mentioned as well as some legendary performances at the Newport Jazz fest

It was also the same year that "The Genius Of Ray Charles" was released. Arguably Ray's greatest album. He also released as a single "i believe to my soul" which to me is hands down his best song

If I had to actually rank it, I'd probably go with The Queen is Dead.

If I had to choose one album to keep it would be Your Funeral...My Trial. Just some classically dark Cave.

Edit: A couple others I like a lot are EVOL and Life's Rich Pageant.

This is odd... I have absolutely 0 albums from the year I was born (1981). I have albums from the 5 years in both directions, but not that one.

Cristopher Cross - Sailing swept the grammys that year (although it was released in 1980). Crap year for music I suppose
