Foobar, because:
1. Custom UI (i want it simple, small and informative)
2. Replaygain support
3. Bitperfect output

Besides foobar i use Winamp but only for the more exotic filetypes (like mod, spc etc) because the winamp plugins are usually better for that kind of files (more options)

Amarok works just fine. For ripping, EAC through wine or rubyripper (that uses cdparanoia).

I just use iTunes with full apple lossless + a portable DAC. It's not ideal, but it worked fine for me. I've kind of moved away from the whole computer source thing though.

I use Sequoia 10 - this is the top end program from Magix costing about $3,000 I think.

But I use this for classical music recording and editing for CD release.

BUT.........................

The Cheaper Samplitude programs use the same engine and sound the same (just less functionality) - I think Samplitude SE is around $50.

The thing I find about Samplitude / Sequoia is that it is totally neutral and does not change the character of the music at all.

Foobar2000 using Creative X-Fi Platinum ASIO

Tube Sound plugin is also used along with resampler for audiobooks with sample rates too low for ASIO

Cheers!

EAC ripped CDs>FLAC either 1) >Foobar2000 (nothing fancy on the output)> Asus Xonar DX optical out->Zero DAC OPA627/LT1364->Grado SR80 or 2) Squeezebox v3 coaxial digital->Zero DAC OPA627->Yamaha CA-2010 integrated amp->Yamaha NS-1000M speakers (got to love that late 70s gear

)

I think the next upgrade will be in the Zero DAC section with a Moon or Earth HDAM.

I use itunes for playing music. I just really like the appearance of it and it works with my ipod. For ripping I use EAC.

The best I see is 121 Euros for a 90 day rental.

EDIT: I found it, 50 Euro. http://www.samplitude.com/eng/sam/se_bestellen.html
