He's an evil prince, dear, and part-time theatre critic. They don't make a heckofalot of money, you know. We should probably feel sor-r-r-y for him... But you have to admit, those are some of the least expensive cuts... of pork.

Or in other words: Where da mammy?

Where to start... ah. my awful tastes on display.

There are certain J-pop CDs (just some) I'll never admit to possessing.
Example 1 : globe (I don't play them much but always buy replacement copies);
Example 2 : Ayumi Hamasaki (great lyrics, if you actually listen to the songs)

The other kind is a kind of guilty pleasure - good looking artists. The reason they don't go in the other thread is that I don't connect with the music as much as I could.

Example: Peter Joback (www.peterjoback.com)

The weirdest has to be "In a Metal Mood, No more Mr. Nice Guy" by Pat Boone. I really like it, specially his jazzed version of "Enter Sandman".

Also, most people who knows me, finds really weird that I like Yanni, Kenny G, David Benoit, David Sanborn, John Pizzarelli, Savage Garden and Air Supply.

Please dont hurt me.

Also some ud music with Udi Hrant, shamanic songs from all over the world (great for satanic rituals

), whale songs, a recording of the original War of the Worlds by Orson Wells, a Marylin Monroe cd inside a can, a collection of classical contemporary composers from West Germany, lessons on how to become a werewolf in German (It never worked for some reason) and African musician Manu Dibango with Eliades Ochoa's Cuarteto Patria. I guess that's all.

Actually, my wife owns it. I can't remember his name, but he's the fairly portly fellow that would sit on the ground, hold out his arms in yoga style and kinda yawp in some other language. He performed with many popular artists and became all the rage.. unfortunately, he past away. His music, standlone, is, well, weird.. I don't dig.. and even my wife, who insisted on blowing the $20+ on it -- she doesn't dig either.

I feel a "music for sale" item coming on here!

Hmmm...interesting question. What is weird? I'll go with one I'm listening to now: Dan Deacon - "Spiderman of the Rings". It's kind of hyper 8 Bit techno with a bunch of pitched up vocal samples, proggy, undulating keyboards, a little harpsichord, acoustic guitar. A real mash up that's odd but lovable in its own way.

Hah! I love that song. I guess I just like "weird" music. I like The Residents too so he is not all that strange to me. I don't own anything I am embarrassed to admit anymore but I did have a Village People album back in the day. It was fun to dance to with the pretty women I dated.

John Zorn - IAO

What -- even Satan would **** his pants. Then tear his ears off.

Black Elk - Like the Jesus Lizard on crack. Dissonant from front to back with just barely enough in there to qualify as melody. Making things even more difficult, the vocalist constantly sounds like he's about to die and mixes in a hefty dose of odd-ball spoken word. I actually did show this one to a few of my friends and they were ready to throw me out of their apartment.

Aphrodite's Child - 666

Weird Greek hippy sixties stuff featuring Vangelis, Demis Roussos and Irene Pappas famously getting herself off (or thereabouts).

It's actually quite good (mostly) but it definitely qualifies as weird.

The following from my collection have generated responses from listeners ranging from bemused questions to downright hostility:

Deerhoof
Captain Beefheart
Negativeland
Bongwater
Umar Bin Hassan
Sun Ra & His Arkestra
Rahsan Roland Kirk
Lightning Bolt
Hagopian & Tekbilek
(some) Sonic Youth
(some) Coltrane
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Pretty much every conversation I have about music with a "civilian" ends with me confessing to having "weird" taste. I am often shocked how little some people know about music. And I am not talking about obscure bands (although I suppose everybody's definition of obscure is different).
