What is the "weirdest" album you own and why?

Iron Maiden!!

oh yeah!

i love this band. such great music. makes you want to make that devil sign with your hand and grow your hair out long. endlessly entertaining lyrics about time travel and ancient historical figures.

what else? i have a lot of christian hardcore. very heavy stuff. and some really poppy christian pseudo hardcore (towards an end). not sure what else. oh well. i'll have to look.

That puts me way out in the weeds, since that is the most normal stuff that I seem to own.

Two nominees:
The Art of Noise (any of their stuff) Nobody seems to quite grasp the subtle humor. I don't think that they realize what a lot of those sounds are. I really enjoy it.

Jean-Michelle Jarre: Zoolook.
The first time I listened to this thing on headphones it scared the hell out of me. Now I really like it, but I have never played it in public.

Sigue Sigue Sputnik's Flaunt It on vinyl. I bought this when I was a teenager and fond of alternative music nightclubs, back when the word "alternative" as it pertains to music actually meant not mainstream.

Playing this album now brings up some funny memories from those days, but also makes me wonder why the heck I liked it back then?

Funny thing is how music like this -- no matter how patently bad -- can still be listened to if it's tied to important memories from another time in one's life. Sometimes playing this "old" music is the only way to bring up certain faces, memories and thoughts from my mental archives that were otherwise buried forever, which is pretty cool -- it's just too bad that so many of the great old memories are tied to bad music!

Sigue Sigue Sputnik? Yeah. Old Tangerine Dream vinyl? You Bet! The wierdest currently (that is to say, the stuff I'd never loan out) is Pat Metheny's 'Zero Tolerance for Silence'

This one is SO out there! It's just him and a guitar (electric with distortion) doing an improvised solo. Then he over dubs that with an improvisation of that improvisation. And again. And Again, And sometimes Again.

The result? Like 4 or five guitarists warming up before a show on the same amp. Difficult listening..

An album I have that I don't even want to admit here...

Tony Terry - Tony Terry

Released in the late 80's when I was working at a radio station. A slowed down Bobbie Brown? Only one very average R&B song. The rest SUX

One album that most of my friends hate but I truly enjoy is...

Tori Amos - Boys for Pele

... guess it would have to be the handful of cutesy J-Pop albums (hidden in the back of my closet) that put a serious dent on my metalhead cred hahaha.

I've got a bunch of j-pop as well, but I have no problem admitting I have them. However, I very rarely let anyone else listen to them, since most people turn out to be indifferent or bored, then I get mad at them...

Hmm, but one I wouldn't usually mention? Oh dear, I can't wait to see the responses to this choice, but... Madonna - Immaculate Collection.

Sandra Bernhard - 'Excuses for Bad Behaviour'

Early nineties disco revival mixed with wit and ....well Sandra.

For me, its Patsy Cline's 12 Greatest Hits. Very good stuff. I'll only admit to owning it in front of country fans - there's safety in numbers. Its wierd though because I hate modern country, except for Waylon Jennings.

Thanks for reminding me of Art of Noise. I have a few of their albums. I just pulled out the old copy of "daft" (an import from 1984). It's a pretty incredible CD, and one that really shows off your headphones. Very odd, but also very creative. Highly recommended.

P.S. I like it a lot better than their later commercial stuff (Peter Gun, Max HeadRoom, etc.)

Hey, I just realized something: HeadRoom Max <--> Max HeadRoom

Since I love jazz, the majority of my CD and vinyl collection is that genre. Be it smooth, straight ahead, progressive, be-bop, swing.

But, I do have a lot Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. They are at the far end of my album stack, neatly hidden from ridiculing eyes. My favorite is Whipped Cream. Anyone remember the cover? Oh, I like the music too. Since I don't have a turntable, the vinyl doesn't get listened to, but I cannot get rid of these albums.

Definitely! Wasn't it entitled "Whipped Cream and Other Delights"? I have it around here somewhere...........it was my father's.

Yes! I think mine was my mom's and when I started playing the trumpet, she gave it to me.

Trivia question and a tad OT: The song "Whipped Cream" was the theme song to what 60's game show?
