What is the first LP/CD you bought with your own $

The first CD I bought with my own money was (I think) Chocolate Starfish...by Limp Bizkit.
Yes, I am ashamed. No, I haven't listened to it in years.

I was probably 10 or something like that.

LP: Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, 30th Anniversary 180g repressing when I was 13. This was followed by Funeral by Arcade Fire. I wasn't so stupid at that time

My first (and only) vinyl purchase was a signed copy of The Number of the Beast by Maiden. I just bought it on impulse from a collector's shop, I don't even have my own deck.

First CD - Zappa Does Humor Belong in Music?, Zappa's first album that didn't come out on LP, or Zappa We're Only in It for the Money/Lumpy Gravy which ever came out first. I actually had about 5 CDs before I bought a CD player

First LP - Rolling Stones Goat's Head Soup

First Music - A K-Tel compilation. I remember it had Steppenwolf, hated then/like now, and Three Dog Night, loved then/hate now, as well as others I don't remember.

The first time I laid out my own dollars for music was for used copies of The Beatles' "Red Album" and "Blue Album" (the two greatest hits compilations with the cover photos of young/old Beatles looking down at you from some motel or some such). Then a bunch of 45s. Then came high school and tapes tapes tapes.

My first CD purchase was, IIRC, a splurge with birthday money at Northern Lights Records in Minneapolis, where I picked up (again IIRC) Two Sevens Clash by Culture, Bush Doctor, or maybe Legalize It by Peter Tosh, True Democracy by Steel Pulse (yeah, this was the reggae phase), plus The Allman Brothers Band's self-titled debut. That was a fun day.

My first CD purchase was the soundtrack for the movie "Hackers". Man, I loved that movie back in the day, when I was just getting into computers.

Sad to say it, but that was like my third or fourth CD purchase way back in the day. They were pretty big for a while back then. No shame in admitting you got caught up in the current big thing.

Yep, while my taste in music has improved dramatically since then, I still have two of that guy's albums almost memorized word for word. Thanks for bringing those memories back.

First casette I ever purchased with my own money was either Blue Oyster Cult - Some Enchanted Evening, or J. Giels Band - Freeze Frame. Can't remember which one came first - was probably B.O.C. Bought it when I was in 5th grade with my paper route money.

Never purchased any vinyl with my own money.

For fun: The first music I ever owned was in cassette form (I didn't buy it with my own money though) and it was Gene Simmons (Of KISS fame) Solo album. I remember it like it was yesterday. I received that cassette along with one of those oldschool mono cassette player/recorders as a Christmas gift from my Grandmother. I was in 2nd grade (I'm 36 now, you do the math).

Six glorius sides of vinyl purchased way back in 1979. Man, I wore those records out!

I think it might have been Elton John "Rock of the Westies" or possibly Jim Croce "Time in a Bottle" but I couldn't be sure. Those were my cassette tape days, back in '72 or so when I was 10 years old. Then I graduated to 8-Track tapes (whee!!) and of course LPs were also mixed in.

In those days you could buy all-in-one systems from Magnavox that had AM/FM, cassette, and LP, plus a pair of speakers with about 6 feet of cord length. I always thought that was odd and wished I could have seperated the speakers further. Maybe I always was a audiophile but just didn't realize it. I would shut my bedroom door and get outright angry if anyone disturbed me during my listening sessions. I'd tell my sister, "Shut up! Can't you see I'm listening!" That particular tradition has carried over until this very day!
