I never bought anything until high school, because my vinyl freak cousin always gave me records and made tapes. Got equipment hand-me-downs, as well! He's been into vinyl from its heyday through today.

Anyhow, I bought a CD player around '87 and my first disc was "Dark Side of the Moon." I still have it.

Still have the fantastic cousin, too, and still swapping vinyl. He's not into Head-Fi... yet. I'm going to do something about that.

First vinyl... uh about 50 or so in the past couple weeks so... maybe "I Robot" by Alan Parsons Project?

First CD... I think it was "Moving Pictures" by Rush, probably when I was around 13ish.

I believe the first CD I ever bought with my own money was Notorious BIG's Life After Death. The first record that I ever bought was I believe a used copy of Stanley Clarke's School Days. It might also have been Herbie Han****'s Headhunters.

Top that!

I don't know if this tops it but the first LP I can remember buying with my own money was Van Morrsion's Moondance all the back in 1970.

I also remember that around that same time I bought a copy of Dave Mason's Alone Together which features the triple fold cover and the "vomit" vinyl. I'll post a few pictures later today so everyone can see what I'm talking about.

This is a great question. I listened mostly to the radio, and bummed all of my sister's cassette tapes. By the time I had cash of my own and my own taste in music veered away from my sibiling's, here were the trifecta:

First Cassette - Dave Brubeck, Time Out. I kid you not, I was COOL.

First Vinyl - Substance, Joy Division. Did I mention I was cool?

First CD Substance, New Order. I was ROCKIN' that Sony D-15 Discman! Thank goodness we got one as a door prize and my folks didn't know what to do with it!

. Thanks to two older brothers who got me into music, and an allowance from my folks to buy it, my firsts were:

45 Single: The Who, Love Reign On Me - age 8!!! (1973)
LP: J Geils, Live Full House - age 9 or 10 (1974)

I even had one of those "flip and play" vinyl spinners to play them on....

My first CD was one of 3, since I bought 3 at once in 1984 with my first player:

- Best of David Bowie
- Best of Roxy Music
- (forgot the 3rd)

I remember having vinyl or cassette of ELP, Kiss, the Who, and others around 1975 on. Biggest disappointment: having a camp counselor stealing my tape of Kiss: Alive in 1978! I STILL haven't worked out my anger

When I was in 6th grade. ('86) my mother gave me a stereo with a record player she had won in a raffle at my school.

The next day or so
I bought my first vinyl album used from a classmate...it was Pseudo Echo (don't remember the name of the album).

I don't have any vinyl anymore but hope to again at some point when we have more space for the equipment.

I don't remember the first tape I bought but think it might have been Twisted Sister.

First cd was Pearl Jam 10 when I got my first cd player senior year of High school.

My first LP was The The's Infected, bought with my paper round money for £5.49 in 1986. My first CD was an obscure album called The Dark Side Of The Moon by the completely unknown Pink Floyd, that was in 1988, a full year before i even owned a CD Player. That cost me £11.99, i still have the Our Price Sticker on it!
