What did you get for graduation?

heh well i'm continuing the highschool highjack... i told my parents not to invite people, and am really not lookign forward to getting anything for graduation. they paid for me all through my childhood, i don't see graduating (highschool) anything worth rewarding, as far as i know, thats been in the job description since birth. gah, i always feel so guilty either way

I got about $350-400 (counting $$ and giftcards) and almost everything I needed for my dorm room when I graduated from High school.

I had a small party with about 15-20 close friends, catered by chef mom.

Graduating high school isnt a big deal, but everyone around here sends gifts to each other, even neighbors I never spoke to sent small gifts.

Writing thank you notes for all the gifts probably cost me more time and effort than my entire senior year of high school.

When I graduate from college, my parents/grandparents are going to give me some money for a car and a class ring. Thats more than enough.

i got zilch, and my parents won't let me spend my scholarship money on a car/motorcycle/vacation over the summer, despite getting around $5k from 3 consecutive years of honors.

Then again my parents are extremely selfish. They promised to take me on a vacation after I finished junior high, that never happened. They promised a trip to china after highschool, wont happen. They promised again after university they'd take me to Hong Kong, despite telling them several hundred times I don't want to go there, and that using me as an excuse to vacation there would be completely self serving.

After high school I got kicked out of the house for college. After college I got a huge student loan that I'm going to have to carry to grad school. I hate to see what awaits me after grad school.

Yeah, I guess I do. I tend to classify most people(finance wise) by the size of thier house, car they drive etc. But it doesnt always work. Ive walked into some pretty old looking houses and been amazed by the inside. I wouldnt classify my family as rich, either. Pretty normal 2 story suburban house, 4 kids, 2 cars. Pretty average around here. Prices seem to be shooting through the roof for houses around here, high demand. New developments are always going in. Mostly it seems to attract alot of people with kids, real high rated school district. I guess it all comes down to your perspective and area.
Maybe youve just got awesome relatives.

Never went to (HS) graduation. The school decided to tell me I didn't make the cut til after the practice session, and after I got my yearbook and gown. (the latter still unopened). There was even a seat assigned to me for graduation, I walked across the stage in the practice and all my friends were cheering, so I was fooled quite well. They embarassed me in front of my entire class at the post-practice party (when they told me I got ********), I almost dumped my yearbook in the can. I left that place, and never went back.

Still waiting for the day I become somebody, I'll burn an effigy of myself in the gown, just for the hell of it.

(yeah I sound pissed, you would be too)

You must have had really rich friends... I had always thought that sort of thing was rooted firmly in Hollywood along with Arnold blowing the crap out of everyone.

I'm "graduating" this year, in that I passed my quals last fall, so I get a complementary Master's degree. I think I get a BBQ at my uncle's place, but I'm not really sure ... my grandma's kind of traditional, so she might "make" me take a gift of some kind. Oh, and I don't think I'll be able to keep my parents from bringing me some uber-expensive lei... I still don't understand how they keep them alive on the 6 hour flight, but oh well...

It's a trend around these parts to be showy. One kid got a porsche. Another got a camaro SS. Same car was wrapped around a pole not 3 weeks later.

Funny response, Rick, but so true about how times have changed. A bus ticket was all you needed back then. I can't remember exactly what I got when I graduated from high school. I'm sure there was some money involved, but not much.

That 18 hour ride was brutal man ! And not much of a "present" for my Graduation from BCT at Ft. Jackson,S.C.

For some strange reason I actually thought I was going to get a week or two off from training but nooooooo.Get on the bus jerky !
Four hours with the family who came down for my "graduation" then see ya later and back at in in the swamps of La. 18 hours later

I swear my head is still shaped like my steel pot due to wearing that heavy b*tch continuously unless indoors (rare)...........

Kicked out.

yeah,me too man.Can be kinda rough when you know more than your teachers and they know it.My high school time was a continuous battle with the establishement until I went off one day and took out a teacher who thought he was going to embarrass me in front of the class.
I took him out verbally then when he tried to get physical I dropped his a*s cold.Lucky shot considering the size difference

Good thing I was only 15 or I would have been locked up for that stunt though nothing happened to the idiot who tried to put hands on me first.Times have changed a lot
rolleyes.gif

since state law says they have to provide an education until the age of 16 they had to at town expense send tutors to my house daily and when I aced every course and actually made high honors though being tutored it did not count I was "invited" back to school.

Big mistako !!!

Day one not ten minutes in this idiot teacher comes out with "So mr.XXXXX.I see they let you back in.you learn how to act yet ?"

To which I just had to "Oh yeah.I learned that as*holes like you will never change and no matter how hard you study I will always know more by accident than you ever will on purpose so if you are supposed to teach me maybe you should start learning how to act yourself and take a course in civility " then walked out and never looked back.

Bad move man.
