What did you get for graduation?

I got a few hundred bucks from friends and family for my college graduation. It was a decent chunk of change, but I was also down to about $70 by the time I graduated since I had been living pretty poor that last year (in spite of working 16 hours a week). I used a fairly large amount of it to put together a new computer, since the one I had at the time was 5 or 6 years old and had been patched together with upgrades as I could afford them/desperately needed them.

Didn't get a car or a digicam or a cruise or any of that crap. Now, two years later, I've finally gotten a job and should be able to start hooking myself up with some stuff. Which will be nice after years of involuntary poverty.

I got about $3500 when I graduated High School. Of course $2,000 came from my father's parents. My wife got close to $7,000, woth a $5,000 check comming from her Grandparents. I guess it is a regional, and generational thing. We also have graduation parties, where we invite everyone we know and have food and cake.

Interesting Story: If you have seen American Pie, hopefully you noticed the hotdog store that they frequent. The movie is based very close to my home town. In real life the hotdog place is called Yesterdog, and they make the best hotdogs available anywhere (IMO.) I had Yesterdog cater my grad party; we had unlimited hotdogs for everyone. A fantastic time was had by all.

HIgh school: I got a small scholarship for the university I applied to. Got nagged by family on why the scholarship wasn't bigger.

University: I got a job. And I got nagged by family members and relatives I don't even know for not doing a Masters or PhD.

I got $2500 and used every penny of it for things I needed for college. Refrigerator, tv, microwave, lamps, etc. Not a penny of it to myself. It sucked but my parents made me do it. Cheap basturds.

Over a decade ago I got a Guild 12-String, not the fanciest one, just a D-4-12, and it's one of the first with the natural instead of the gloss finish - even the pearloid headstock logo is a tad understated. It's too big to keep in the apt so when I go home to visit the folks I always make a point of pulling it out and strumming/picking a few tunes. When I graduated from Grad school, I paid my way through, and paid for my own grad gift too - a black maple Guild J-40. That's under the bed at the folk's house too. That was the same summer I paid for the engagement ring. Looking back, apparently i had alot more spending cash when i was a bachelor. Funny that, eh?

in 83' I got a party from my parents, I received over $4k in cash

Took that money and went on a surf trip of southern France, Spain, and Portugal that summer. Too bad I didnt have my ipod and E2s then. Instead I think I had some Aiwa tape player and a set of headphones and like a bone head I only brought 2 or 3 tapes with me. Boston, AC/DC Back in Black, and I cant remember the last one

It was a great trip.

Well, I guess it depends on your point of view. I would not personally classify my family as rich by any means, but we are all rich by the standards of some.

So, I guess you are going to have to be more specific.
