nice! anyways, i was thinking i was probably going to get like 500 total from my entire family, but i think that has changed things a bit in terms of expectations, i could be looking at 1k plus here, which would probably mean...yep...you guessed it...more head-fi ****! im thinking of either going 580s--->650s or no dac---->headroom micro dac. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. regardless, how much did you get when you graduated college? this is looking like its gonna be pretty rad.

Yea man, $500 is probably shooting a little low. I think I got like $1200 including all the gift cards, plus a couple of odds and ends for college and one of those Phillips DVD players that plays DivX movies. It was a pretty good turn out if I do say so myself!

You people get money for graduation?

I got nothing because my parents believe graduating is part of the "job description" of a "good son".

No car. No money (in any form). No strippers or swinging parties.

Full-On custom Colt Combat Commander (Officer's Sidearm), .45cal, Hardslide, engraved with my full name on one side, My school and year on the other, in a handmade/hand-tooled leather case with hand-braided leather edges, Colt Logo on the one side, and My engineering emblem (a Ship's screw) on the other. that was just from my immediate family (Dad, Mom, and two brothers)..., and a buncha money from others, probably totalling $500.

Funny response, Rick, but so true about how times have changed. A bus ticket was all you needed back then. I can't remember exactly what I got when I graduated from high school. I'm sure there was some money involved, but not much.

When I graduated from college, I didn't go through the ceremony because I knew my parents were going through a hard time financially. They were putting several of my younger brothers and sister through a private high school, and I didn't want to add to their stress.

The next year when I finished my master's, everyone came. There must have been 30 to 40 people just from the family, and my dad wanted to take everyone out to dinner but I had already arranged to have piles of pizza delivered to my apartment afterwards. This is when he told me that he realized why I didn't go though my undergraduate ceremony the previous year, and then he said, "That was when I knew you had grown up, because now you're worried about protecting us." Coming from my dad, that was a lot. I'll never forget how hard they struggled to give us what they couldn't have themselves. What they did give us was an opportunity to further our education, and that has paid for itself many times over.

Coming from the UK "graduation" is meaningless unless it is preceded by "college" or "University", you just leave (High) school at age 16 or 18, until 1972 you could actually leave school at 15.

When I passed my School Exams (O Levels) at age 16 I got a pair of $40 speakers and a cheapo ($40) Super8 movie camera and projector. I got nowt for my A levels (College reqt exams in the UK).

I've seen you describe your Colt .45 in another thread and that has got to be one of THE coolest gifts I've ever heard of. I'm sure it is really spectacular to see, do you have any pictures? Anyways, sweet pistol man!

All I got was a $50,000 bill to pay and a "My kid goes to the University of Cincinnati" bumper sticker. And this is the third sibling I have put through that school.

ding!

not that I care for gifts or anything though... well, something small would be nice. My family's all about postponing celebration. Finish High school - I get a pat on the back, and a "good... now go to university." while my friends got new cars. Put myself thru university , I get a pat on the back and a "where are you going to grad school?" . Choose a reasonably priced, great grad school so I can afford to pay for it myself, and I get a "why don't you go to Harvard/MIT/Stanford ?" . Gotta love families...

I graduate (from high school) on June 15th. Everyone in my school gets to do a "senior project," where we basically get to do something that interests us for a month. I chose to build an amplifier. Directly heated triode amps get pretty expensive, so my parents are paying for the parts as their graduation gift for me. It's really great for me: I get to have fun building the amplifier, then have a great amp to listen to when I'm done, and I don't have to pay for it!

I also know my mom's friend (our families are really close, she and my mom were room mates in law school) is giving me a digicam. Sweeeet!

Finally!! Someone who understand my situation.
