Hi Head-Fi community,

In an attempt to improve my audio experience I went ahead and bought FIio E17 and Samson SR850. Sound quality wise it was definitly a big step up from my Xonar DX with cheap headphone. However, I ran into two issues,

* SR850 is so uncomfortable. My ears gets hot and sweaty just about 15 minutes. I see a lot of people recommend AKG-240 velour pads but it would cost me around $40 to get a pair from AKG. I'm not sure if spending $40 on a $50 headphone is a good idea. What do you think?

* For some reason when listening to high pitched music (such a vocaloid) or movies, some highs are "muddy" or "harsh" (I'm not good with description). it definitely doesn't sound comfortable. Is this part of SR850 sound signature?

The Samson SR850 (made by Superlux) & Superlux HD681, HD668B, HD669 and AKG K240/241/270/271 all use the same size ear pads.

This eBay seller sells generic ear pads ($16) for those headphones I listed.

How is it? Is it comfortable?

I've never used the $16 no-name ear pads.
I was lucky enough to buy real AKG Velour ear pads for about $22 each (bulk purchase from Thomann in Europe)

I would assume the $15 ear pads are decent quality, but do not have as good a quality as AKG ear pads.
I would say to give the $16 ear pads a try.

How would you rate SR850? I see that you also have one. Does it sound "muddy" or "harsh" for you too when listent to high pitched music/movie?

I also have the option to return this headphone for another one, with budget up to $150. If I do what open headphone would you recommend? I primairly listen to Asian-Pop/Rock and watch a lot of movie.

The Samson SR850 are a good audio quality for their price range.

Refurb Audio Technica ATH-A900X, $130 plus tax & shipping.
(I paid $256 for new ATH-A900Xs)
