For starters, try this. Don Delillo's Underworld. That's a GREAT read.

I, Alex Cross by James Patterson. Tbh, it's not really that good. I mean that in terms of the writing, it's a bit "elementary".
 
It's a good cheap mystery thrill if that's what you're looking for.

My mum insisted I needed to read it, although I'm not much of a thriller fan so will see how it goes.
