this is very true and quite possibly plays a part in the differing opinions of the player.

To me it looks like the evidence supports my comment though. If you go back a 9-12 months ago or farther there are several people who posted positive comments about the sound quality of the CD5001. Enough people on several forums liked the player and then within the last few months a handful of people posted negative comments about the unit all independent from each other.
