Mike Oldfield
Pink Floyd

Here are my favourite bands:

(1) Rush
(2) Scorpions
(3) Led Zeppelin
(4) AC/DC
(5) Aerosmith
(6) Boston
(7) Pink Floyd
(8) The Who
(9) Van Halen
(10) The Cult

Some of these are closer to 'heavy metal' bands, and you can see my tastes are more for the "veteran" groups who STILL produce some great stuff. (most new bands royally suck, IMHO)

BTW, Rush have a new CD coming out in mid-May called "Vapour Trails." Can't wait!

thats not counting the various projects like Stangers On A Train, Bozzio Levin Stevens, Nolan&Wakeman etc etc, they'd be up there in the top 7. my top 7 as I listed it is all pretty close with one going up one day and another the next.

Showing my age:

Jefferson Airplane
Country Joe & The Fish
Doors
Byrds
Cream
Beatles
Joplin
Stones
Hendrix

Slightly newer:

Eagles
Doobies

Further Back:

Platters
Bill Haley
Buddy Holly

Have to think too much for a larger list, but I've lived way too long for a short list. Way to many changes in musical styles and tastes.

If I like it, it's music. If I don't?? It's noise pollution.

I was specifically looking to get some insight into new bands...so I purposely posed the question regarding bands, but hey! no reason we can't include solo artists if tastes prefer

Tom Waits...Leonard Cohen...Sting....In that order for me

Jimi and Janis actually never performed "SOLO". There were always other musicians on stage. They were just the headliners. Hell, even Sinatra always had a backup band.

Billy Joel did some solo stuff, him and his piano only. So did (fire up the flame throwers) Barry Manilow.

You could just about put Jim Morrison in the same class as Hendrix, or Janis. It's just that they maintained the band name.

Anywho, there's a hell of a lot of fantastic music out there, and I'm reasonably sure there's more to come.

carlo
