  In round, general numbers....12ax7 has a gain of 100, 12at7 has a gain of 60 and 12au7 has a gain of 20. In vali, 12ax7 has too much...

  The 100x gain from 12AX7 is far too high. Remember: the gain for the 'stock' 5670 / 2C51 / 6N3P is 35x.

  Hmmm. I did try a 6SN7. Not sure if I tried my Sylvania VT-231 though. And I had to stack 2 adapters 5670->6DJ8->6SN7. Not the cleanest...
