Not sure whether a similar thread has ever been started, but let's take a look at some of everyone's favourite headphone to amp combination.

For myself:

Denon D5000 to Rudistor NX-03.
Denon D5000 with Graham Slee Novo (After many many burn in hours.)
Senn HD600 Cardas Recable with Graham Slee Solo SRG.
AKG 702 with a diy amp, designed similarly to the Sugden Headmaster.
Beyer dt880 250 ohms with darkvoice 337.

Cheers Guys.

Kind of a tricky question, it's not really easy to get exposure to many amp/headphone pairings unless you attend many meets. Many will just post their current rig.

How would you rate the first combination vs the second? (i.e. worth the price difference?)

Well, it's different, mainly in the way it handles the 5000's bass.

Even after burn in, the d5000's bass may be overwhelming for some.

I find the Rudistor NX-03 tames the bass down by making it go lower and deeper.
I find it great for listening to some classical tracks and jazz.

Meanwhile for the Novo, it does not "smoothen" the bass, but rather makes the bass "fun". Sort of like a bounce of a ball, something that you want to bang your head to. I had mentioned this in another thread on my impressions on the Denon d5000 vs the d7000, as I had based it on using a Novo and a Solo SRG.

It really depends on what genre you would listen more to. Classical, Jazz, something slow? The Rudistor will be worth every penny.

Electronica, Rock, Pop? The Novo will suit your needs just right and perhaps it it just a bit more versatile.

On another note, I sort of miss my Novo now. Incidentally I traded it off for the NX-03 to try something new, and it turned out to be a rather decent trade.

I've been loving the HD-800 out of the Moth Si2A3. It gives you all the detail and pacing you could want but also lends just enough of that DHT magic.

Two pairings clearly stand out in my mind as the best of the best that I had the good fortune to listen to at CanJam:

TTVJ 307A -> PS1000

WA5 Max -> HD800
