That was absolutely beautiful! I usually can't stand listening to dubstep, but that violin....man that does wonders to the genre. :xf_eek:

Caught me by surprise too when I heard it for the first time.

Hmm, that looks interesting. What's it like? You can never tell in advance with him.

For me the last Zorn I purchased was around 2000. I'm not really up to date on him. It's very different from the Masada or Naked City stuff. Cool raspy vocals, Hammond B3 and the influences of course of his musical partners...........which would describe the album just by their own history.

From the Cello thread:

WOW! Thank you so much for introducing me to Jacqueline du Pre. We've added the documentary to our Netflix queue. This is just beautiful.

I wanted to share another of my favorites. It is a Debussy Sonate with Maurice Gendron Violoncello & Christian Ivaldi Klavier filmed in 1967 in Paris. It is mesmerizing. The balance of the piano and the cello is a perfect dance of contrast.

And again:

Here's one of favorite contemporary cellists. Sol Gabetta. I really love Vivaldi's music, and she interprets it beautifully. What's interesting is that she plays some pieces written for cello naturally, but also violin concertos transcribed for cello, and she makes them her own. A joy to listen to.

Crank up the volume on this one:

Going back to Elgar, I don't know of a better studio recording as done by Gabetta. Here she performs it live:

So, how is it?

Great classic!

No doubt...long held the LP. But, wondering if it was a quality transfer to HDtracks @ 24/192 kHz or 24/96 kHz, like Innervisions was. I'll buy "Maybe Your Baby" tonight; the rest of the album download first week of September. Will be a great way to celebrate Labor Day weekend!
