REVIEW: 2004 Sensible Sound...
In every major city there's a cadre of scarred blues veterans who have toiled in the local glow and national obscurity, save for occasional mentions in Blues Revue, Living Blues, and a smattering of regional publications. Midnight Blue is Washington, DC vets Curtis Pope (trumpet), Selena McDay (vocals), and Artie Sherman (vocals, Hammond B3), each a habitue of the District's blues haunts for decades. Pope and Sherman, veterans of Wilson Pickett's touring band, are no strangers to the Big Time, and Pope still leads the Midnight Movers on frequent East Coast tours.
Midnight Blue currently holds court Wednesday nights at a small northwest DC joint called Chuck and Billy's. And if you want a big on helping of loud electric blues, some righteous shoutin', and a healthy dose smoldering attitude, pour yourself a couple of fingers of Black Jack, put on inner City Blues, and absorb, brothuh.
