Prefab Sprout

One of the most acclaimed British pop bands of the '80s and '90s, Prefab Sprout was the creative vehicle of vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Paddy McAloon, who has been regularly hailed as one of the greatest songwriters of his era. McAloon has often been compared favorably to Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, and even Cole Porter, not just because of his lyrical and instrumental gifts but for the ambitious creative vision of his catalog. A notorious perfectionist who is also known for his shyness and his struggles with health problems, McAloon's body of work is relatively small ten albums in three decades.
Concept 1985 album of American music's roots.

I don't think you can overstate how great Prefab Sprout was. I bought this as Two Wheels Good in the states back in 1987, I think, and just played it and played it. Has totally stood up over time. I mean there's no other music like it and it's basically uncategorizable. Steve McQueen Acoustic is also amazing and every bit as good as the original.

As much as I like Bandcamp - oddly enough the linked songs are not the best in all cases - imo, so sometimes better jump back and forth in the albums... 😃
