To be clear.... Just because "Gangstarr" (Guru), performed on the album doesn't reflect the overall tone of the album.

Of the 9 tracks Gangstarr is only on one (Jazz Thing). Denzel monologues on Pop Top 40. Cynda Williams sings 2 soulful versions of Harlem Blues; the other 5 tracks are traditional jazz by the Brandford Marsalis Quartet with Terrance Blanchard. The only "rapping" is on the Jazz Thing track. This album is heavily jazz.

I was a fan of gangstarr back in the day and I've had Guru's album Jazzmatazz Vol. 1 album since it came out in 1993. It feels a little dated now but it is a very solid album with quite a few notable jazz names doing features on it. I just learned last year that there was also a vol. 2 and vol. 3 released forever ago.

Well, yeah, but that led me to other Gang Starr music. The entire album is great. It also led me to Terence Blanchard and Branford Marsalis, though the latter was already on my radar because of his work with Sting. The movie is hard to watch, as are pretty much all of Spike Lee's movies, because you can just see the awful events coming on the horizon.

Anyway, I've been researching this for a while and have looked at a few amps to include the Burson Soloist Voyage (which I really like, but the built in fan is a buzz kill), the Topping A90D, and some others. In the end I've settled on the Artemis. Also, If I was going to get a Schiit, I'd be the Bifrost 2/64 (YouTube review).

Have you heard any Branford's work with the Grateful Dead? He jammed with them on a number of occasions at live gigs. Even saw them with Ornette Coleman once...
