What Are You Listening To Right Now?

Both Genesis and Peter Gabriel came to San Francisco in 1978 within a few months of each other. Genesis played 2 nights at Winterland - one night was all general admission and the other night was reserved seating; I'd never seen a multiple-night arrangement at Winterland like that. I went to both nights, of course!

The second night, before going into 'Firth of Fifth', Steve Hackett came up to the mic and said 'Those of you who were here last night should remember this..'. When it got to that peak where Tony has got that bass pedal going, I'd guess that more than a few bowels of the attendees were loosened, quite possibly among the band members, too, as Steve sure seems to have remembered it, too.... Here's Phil from that show....

Hi there - thanks for the kind note, and I'm glad you enjoy my snapshots!

Yes, I worked in the music business in the San Francisco Bay Area from '74 - '84 and went to a lot of shows, most for free, and I was also a photographer; back then, you didn't need photo passes to bring in your gear and you could take pictures from wherever you wanted.

I never did this professionally and was never on assignment for anybody; I just did this stuff for my own jollies and sold a few to my friends. I've been getting seen a bit more in the digital age, but I'm not one for going out and hustling pictures - never was, that's why I was never a pro photographer!

"Consolation" from davaNtage Blinders

I somehow missed that a couple years ago they released their first new album in well over a decade. I'm very glad I was still able to get a CD copy.

50 years since 'Foxtrot'? Wow. But yeah, I saw them on the Foxtrot tour in Rochester, NY in Spring of 1973.... Also saw that great Montreal Genesis band, The Musical Box, perform the whole set from that tour about 10 years ago; brought back some memories, that did....
From Rochester....
